The short version
- Your birthdate is only used to work out your zodiac sign. For free readings, we don't save it.
- If you subscribe or join the mailing list, we keep your email and your sign so we can send you readings.
- If you order a birth chart report, we use your birth date, time, and place to create it, then delete them (and the report) 90 days after your order.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details never touch our servers.
- We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't run ads.
- You can unsubscribe, cancel, or ask us to delete your data at any time.
Who we are
Cosmic Intern (“we,” “us”) runs cosmicintern.com, a daily horoscope site. If you have a question about this policy, email mail@cosmicintern.com.
What we collect, and why
Free readings. When you enter your birthdate, we use it to work out your zodiac sign and show you that sign's reading. We don't store the birthdate or link it to you.
Premium subscriptions. When you subscribe, we collect your email address and your birthdate. We use the birthdate only to work out your sign and don't store it. We keep your email, your sign, your subscription status and renewal date, your email preferences, and the customer and subscription IDs Stripe gives us, so we can send your daily reading and manage your account.
Signing in. To sign in to your account, we email you a one-time sign-in link. Your email is the only thing we need for that.
Mailing list and free downloads. If you sign up for our newsletter or a free download (like our zodiac guide), we collect your email address and your birthday. We use your birthday to work out your sign, personalize what we send you, and send you something on your birthday. Our email provider also records basic engagement data, like whether an email was opened or a link was clicked.
Birth chart reports. When you order a report, we collect your email, an optional first name, the birth date, birth time (if known), and birthplace, and, for gifts, the names and note you enter for the gift tag. We use them to calculate the chart, write the report, and email it to you. We keep them, along with the finished report, for 90 days after your order so you can re-download it or send us a corrected birth time, and then we delete them. We keep a basic record of the order itself (email, date, amount) as long as needed for billing, tax, and legal records.
Ordering a report doesn't add you to our mailing list. If you tick the optional box at checkout, we add you. If you're already on the list (for example, from our free guide), we note that you bought a report so we stop pitching it to you.
When you contact us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
Site analytics. We use privacy-friendly analytics that we host ourselves. They count things like page views, which pages were visited, the referring site, and general browser and device type. They don't use cookies, and they don't track you across other websites.
Technical data. Like any website, our servers see your IP address when you visit. We use it briefly to prevent abuse (for example, limiting how many requests one address can make), and it may appear in standard server logs.
Cookies and local storage
We keep this minimal:
- Sign-in cookie. If you sign in to your account, we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It's required for your account to work. If you don't sign in, it isn't set.
- Saved email. We may save your email address in your browser's local storage so you don't have to retype it. It stays on your device. Clearing your browser data removes it.
We don't use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Who else handles your information
We use a few trusted service providers to run the site. They only get what they need to do their job:
- Stripe processes payments and manages billing.
- Resend delivers our daily readings and account emails.
- MailerLite manages our mailing list and newsletter emails.
- FreeAstroAPI calculates birth charts. For a report, it receives the birth date, time, and place (not your name or email).
- Cloudflare runs the AI model (Claude, made by Anthropic) that helps write our readings and reports.
- Our hosting provider runs the servers the site and database live on.
Our daily readings are written with the help of AI, per zodiac sign, not per person. Birth chart reports are written with AI from the calculated chart: planet positions, signs, and angles. We never send your name or email to the AI provider. For gift reports, the first names on the gift tag may be included so the report can mention them.
We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information if the law requires it, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
The emails we send
- Daily readings go to premium subscribers. You can turn them off from your account.
- Account and billing emails (sign-in links, receipts, subscription changes) are sent when needed while you have an account.
- Newsletter and offers go to people who signed up for them. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away.
How long we keep it
- Free-reading birthdates: not kept.
- Birth chart report details and the report itself: deleted 90 days after your order.
- Subscriber records: for as long as you have an account, and afterward only as long as needed for billing, tax, and legal records.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to help you, then deleted when no longer needed.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from any marketing email with one click, and manage or cancel your subscription from your account page. You can also email mail@cosmicintern.com to ask what information we have about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We'll respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU or the UK), you may have additional rights under local law. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live.
California residents
Cosmic Intern is based in California. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We also don't share it with other companies for their own marketing. You can ask to know, correct, or delete the personal information we have about you by emailing mail@cosmicintern.com, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
Do Not Track. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because we don't track you across other websites or use advertising trackers, our site works the same way whether or not that signal is on.
Children
Cosmic Intern isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and limited access to our systems. No system is perfectly secure, but we take it seriously, even if we don't take much else seriously.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let subscribers know by email before it takes effect.
